Two procedures are available to determine when alloy is out of specification and should be replaced. Freezing curve analysis provides exact melt temperature of alloy samples. An atomic absorption test breaks down an alloy sample into base metal percentages and any contaminants.

To comply with OSHA regulations, every facility that fabricates shielding blocks should conduct air sample analysis and post the results. MEDTEC offers one-week rentals on OSHA-approved air sample pumps and filters. Simply conduct an eight-hour sample according to instructions, then ship the pump and filter back to MEDTEC. A written analysis will be sent back in three to four weeks.

MEDTEC’s convenient mold room wipe test includes wipes, sample containers, and a test area template. Simply conduct the test according to instructions and return the sample to MEDTEC. In three to four weeks a written analysis will be available of both lead and cadmium levels to determine the effectiveness of clean-up procedures.
