Implanted Gold Fiduciary Markers Print

Implanted gold markers provide a highly effective method of ensuring accurate target localization for tumors/organs that move in respect to external anatomy, as well as for the precision localization needed for stereotactic radiotherapy (pReference™ frameless. NMPE has optimized fiducial marker characteristics for bone and soft tissue applications. The markers are made of pure gold, and show up distinctly on EPID, film, kV, and CR images.

Bone Markers

ACCULOC bone markers are pure gold 2 mm spheres used in cranial and spinal applications. They are typically placed in a small hole in the bone and sealed with bone wax; no marker migration has been observed in thousands of cases.

Soft Tissue Markers

ACCULOC soft tissue markers are cylindrical for ease of needle insertion. These proprietary soft tissue markers are crosscut with a special knurling process to inhibit marker migration. They are available in 0.9, 1.2, and 1.6 mm widths, pre-loaded and sterilized in implant needles or sold separately.

Suture-type Markers

New patent-pending suture-type markers are designed for high accuracy breast tumor localization and are applicable in any physician-designated location where migration potential is a concern.

Convenience

For greater versatility, NMPE has developed preloaded, sterilized needles with multiple, soft tissue markers. Needles are available with two markers spaced at 10 or 15 mm.
Variety

• Nonmigrating soft tissue markers in additional sizes: 0.9 and 1.2 mm, separate or preloaded
• Large nonmigrating markers: 1.6 mm
• Shorter 12 cm length preloaded needles

Works In Progress

• Endobronchial markers for use with 19 gauge needles
• Kilovolt-based localization markers
• Nonmetallic markers for use in proton therapy
